The Wheelhouse at Industry City
An industrial seaside playground in the middle of Sunset Park
As part of the Summer Spree series at Industry City (IC), Airspace was approached to design an identity for The Wheelhouse, a newly renovated courtyard featuring putt-putt and ping pong. A vintage tugboat found by the Frying Pan team in upstate New York sits at the center of the action as a make shift bar serving drinks and seaside inspired sandwiches. The team looked to the tugboat’s iconic framework and playful appeal of carnival graphics to design the logo.
The experience was carried through out to a carpet of colorful marine flag at the entrance, supergraphics flanking restrooms entrances, a wayfinding system using reclaimed wood and food and beverage menus featuring custom icons.
